Sometimes I forget to write

I realized the other day that I count posting as putting up pictures. But for those of you who really want to know about our lives, I probably should be a little more descriptive and maybe write a word or two sometime.

We have been doing well here in the state of Virginia. About 2 weeks ago, it dawned on Jimmy that the semester was actually coming to a close. He only has a few weeks left, and if you know anything about law school you know those weeks are the hardest. It is when all those ugly finals come and rear their mighty heads to belittle what most think they know. Jimmy seems in better spirits than previous semesters. As he would say, it is because he doesn't care as much. I think it is because he is not as bothered by not being in the top 10% of the class. Maybe it is the same thing.

He is also quite involved in the mock trial competitions. Today he is "arguing" in court about a mock murder case. He LOVES it! In fact he says that he has to pull himself away from preparations for this case to do his actual course work. Do you know how great that it?! Last year he threatened, almost daily, to be done with the law school thing. And there were times I wanted to give up with him. But now he is actually enjoying something about the law school experience. Sure, it has nothing to do with the classes, but thank goodness it is something to do with law. He will actually like what he wants to do in the end. Hallelujah!

Lucy is in that transition phase between being a blob on the floor to a scooting/crawling monster. I must admit, something I try to help her learn to sit on her knees and propel forward. I am sure I will regret it later. Especially when she is eating something disgusting out the trash. But by darn it is adorable to see her try to reach for things that are just far enough away that she has to scoot forward. She doesn't quite move, but I know we are within weeks of having to seriously consider and implement baby proofing. She does sit up quite independently. Although if she is a little too excited she will fling herself forward which has introduced a few bruises to her face.

Still no teeth, but sometimes I think she is just about to rupture with 2 or 3. She gnaws on EVERYTHING, including my face. One can only hope this teething phase will end, so she can get back into a "normal" sleeping schedule. We have had a few 8-9 hour stretches of sleep, but they are not consistent. Someday I will get a full night of sleep.

Everything on my end is going fine. I am finishing up the semester without much trouble. My classes are quite manageable. Next semester I have opted to only teach one night class (unless they really need me for a second) and the one day class Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

I am "training" for a thanksgiving run. It has given me just enough motivation to run a little more frequently. Plus, Lucy really enjoys being outside and tolerates the stroller a lot more than she used to. There only a few weeks left of this nice weather, I must take advantage of it when I can.

Next weekend we head up to New England. Everyone in our family is excited. Good food, good company, and a little break from the norm. It should give us just the amount of energy needed to finish the semester.
